Yamla Pagla Deewana and Dhobi Ghat (The new Munna in town)

to say about a movie where Sunny Deol is the sense and the voice of reason. Yes it was a mad capper filled with Punjabi humour, over the top situations and where DDLJ met some drunken slapstick humour.

The best part was the characters were happy to let go and do their bit. They even made spoofs on their Stereotype. The production was tacky at times but even that was added as a joke. The second half thus was indeed enjoyable.

Now to state the weaklinks - a) over drunk shots by Dharam, Bobby (could have done with a few lesser) , b) Dancing c) Acting by Sunny Deol - Now to state that Sunny Deol can act is not a joke as he can but lately he seems to have gone under the shell where he does not want to adapt or improvise. d) Having emotions in a movie which deserved to be a comic capper. (Debatable but a point of view)

When you come out of a movie like that the silence is misleading but the silence after Dhobi Ghat had just one thing to offer. So much to offer and yet it disappoints. The montage is excellent. The people real. The silent grandma offers hope and then haunts but as Prateek and Aamir carry out their roles, you feel the vacuum.

The Tapes and the point of view of outsider was a good concept but it went patchy and the intensity of curiosity built into the mind of Arun (Aamir) goes missing. Why was he so curious, how he felt should have been shown. Sly was good as a character but just as one started to like Prateek as Munna, his brother who is bound to die, dies (too soon) and movie comes to its logical (abrupt) end.

But a take on Munna though.

Aamir the Munna of 1990's (Rangeela, Ghulam) was a very dream loving Munna. He was likable but filmy. But he created a impact. I wont go to other Munna (Sanjay Dutt) as we are talking street Munnas and not Munna Bhais.

This Munna was real. Not filmy. Doing real street jobs - like bun maska of Salaam Mumbai. His reason to be in Mumbai was real - hunger, his dream of being a film star was also real. Wish this Munna had more screen time and a reason to succeed / fail. But alas it ends abruptly.
