Climbing everest.

At every point in life, an individual fights to prove. To prove himself, his /her worth and /or for a better life. Sometimes the fight is less intense sometimes its a tough one.

A tough fight though needs a tough mind. A mind which simply doesnt give up. A mind which is sufficiently motivated.

You dont need to be extraordinary to achieve victories in tough fights. You need to be sufficiently? (self) motivated.

? - because how will you get its parameters

and (self) - because its your life and you will do only what you want to do.

So how would you self motivate. That is perhaps matter for another post.

The Ogilvy Way - Part II

People who think well, write well.

Good Writing is not a natural gift. You have to learn to write well.

Here are 10 hints.

1) Read Writing that works, Harper & Row, 1981.

2) Write the way you talk. Naturally.

3) Use short words, short sentences and short Paragraphs.

4) Never use jargon words.

5) Never write anything for more than two pages.

6) Check your quotations.

7) Never send a memo or a letter on the day you write it. Read it aloud the next morning and edit it.

8) Take a feedback.

9) Be clear yourself what you want from the receiver when you send him something in written.

10) If you want ACTION, dont Write it. Go tell the guy what you want.

Why Rocky Balboa the movie- I, II, a must see.

"All I wanna do is go the distance.
Nobody's ever gone the distance with Creed,
and if I can go that distance, you see,
and that bell rings and I'm still standin',
I'm gonna know for the first time in my life,
see, that I weren't just another bum
 from the neighborhood."  Rocky Balboa.

Rocky Balboa is an interesting story. He is a left handed boxer, (not considered good) who doesn't  get opportunities at his early professional career. Then one day he suddenly gets one chance to prove what he is and he uses it the best way he can.

The Back story to this movie plot is that  Sylvester Stallone was struggling as an actor himself and he wrote this script to resurrect what was till now a mediocre career. And 30 years since the first movie every Rocky movie was in its own way a comeback initiative for Sylvester Stallone.

So why is Rocky (I and II) something that we should watch.

It is movie which is about the persons self worth. His self respect.

His family - a girlfriend/wife or a close friend/brother in law would have been with him no matter what and are very close to him. This support system is very important and one must always value it.

It is also about simple mind, positive attitude, determination and Hard work.

And even though it may seem or look like a boxing movie it is actually a movie about passion.

It is a story of a passion to prove to the world and more to himself that he is a man. And the reason this is important, is because he wants to earn the respect. Its not about winning, its about wanting to win and standing your ground to win against all odds.

His odds are what many professionals must be going through at their jobs.

  • People thinking you are past your prime. - new hungry breed is ready
  • You do your job well, but you are talented. You could have been a star.
  • You earn money and yet are never quite able to save it. It always seems like a paycheck to paycheck situation.
  • People look at your past but can never think that you have the skills now to make something good happen for the future.
  • You have yourself accepted the fact that things can not be better than they are.
What Rocky does to you is pull you out of this rut and tell you/ force you to stop being such a bum.

He is only a man I tell ya. He will break.

So when in self doubt, a good dose of Rocky (back to back) can be helpful.  There is only one more thing I would like to say about Rocky. And it is not about the training montage, (with fantastic music) or the final fights. And that thing is Adaptability. If you can just take this from this movie, its still good.

Brand Ambassadors - Best known faces endorsing us ... almost about anything.

He sells (promotes) us Dish TV, Fair and Handsome, Hyundai, Gitanjali, Nerolac, Sprite, (previvously Pepsi) and also Pepsodent. We all know him. We like him, We hate him. But we know him.

He becomes the face of the Brand.

But almost every Brand with Money to get him has him endorsing.

So if you have him. And you are a Brand. What do you do.

Use him differently and make him act out your product. After all your intention is to promote the Brand and not him. Make sure that people recall the Brand and him and not the other way around.

Ogilvy way- Part 1.

How to Craft messages that sell.

Product /Service is ready for distribution. How to sell it.

1. Humour. _ If it can be said in a funny way, lighter tone. Do It. Recall will be high. Just make sure that Brand name is prominent in the message.

2. Slice of life. - Oldest way and yet its never ending.

3. Testimonials. (non celebrity) - Believable especially done through social media now a days.

3.a) Celebrity. -  Well it still works but its not very productive now.

4. Demonstrations - Seeing is believing.

5. Problem solution - Here is your problem, therefore here is your solution.

6. Talking heads (features of the product) - It may seem boring but its the only way to showcase the attributes for a high involvement purchase.

7 Character (Mascot) - Its the clown. Oh that means Mcdonalds... this method works well with time.

8 Reason Why- One reason to buy X over Y. It can be rational or emotional.

9 News - A new way to use a (old) product.

10 Emotion - A good method, but dont attempt emotion unless you can deliver it.

11 Cartoons- They work well for kids. Can also work for adults. (Need good content) - Example Amaron batteries.

12 Show the package - Ofcourse if you are selling something tangible, show it. If it is intangible, illustrate its benefit.
13. Music- sing it - If you have nothing new to say, hammering through a jingle is a good way as people retain music. ie. Nirma, Lifebouy, Mutoot Gold finance,
14. sound effect - It breaks the clutter. ie. Tide deterdent bar.
